Maximizing Your Marriage
“And put on the new person, which in the likeness of God has been
created in righteousness and holiness of the truth” (Eph. 4:24).
This is the last teaching in our series titled, “How To Build A Better Marriage.” Second only to your relationship with Christ, marriage is the most sacred and meaningful relationship you will ever enter into. Hopefully, you gleaned from each series teaching and gained enough fresh revelation of bible truths to help you begin the exciting journey of maximizing your marriage.
Let’s pause for a moment and reread the scripture found in Ephesians 4:24. It is no coincidence that the Holy Spirit prompted the apostle Paul to pen this important truth. It is so important that it is not written once, but sixteen times. God has done His part by destroying the works of the devil through the finished work of His Son Jesus, but we must do our part by daily making a decision to put on the new self. Get the picture! It’s your choice! You can walk according to your flesh and allow negative thoughts to control, harass, and create strife, or you can make a determination to walk according to the Spirit and see your marriage prosper.
Too be sure, it takes discipline to daily put on the new self, but the alternative is to get up each morning and put on your old grave clothes. The old you had an undisciplined mind that constantly dug up past failures and dead end streets because the old you was a servant to your flesh. The new you is a servant to the Holy Spirit, but that will not stop the enemy from attempting to bring negative thoughts to your mind. Negative thoughts will come, and when they do remember that you cannot defeat them with more thoughts, even with positive thoughts. You defeat them by speaking God’s truths and promises. That is what Jesus did and that is what you must do also (Matt. 4:1-11). I encourage you to make Proverbs 18:20-21 one of your favorite bible verses because it carries with it foundational victory : Words satisfy like a good meal and right words bring satisfying results, for life and death are in the power of the tongue.” Get determined to daily put on the new self and begin enjoying your marriage to the max. Do not allow the enemy to keep your thoughts on negative conditions, but instead, keep your mind and thoughts on your heavenly position (Col. 3:1). Let laughter and excitement be the norm in your home. Let peace and hope satisfy your soul. Let good health and prosperity have rule and reign. Let God have dominion over the enemy and put him to flight. Let God’s blessings and favor overtake you in all of your ways. Let today be the greatest day of you life, and tomorrow shine even brighter
You, child of God, have been given the keys to the Kingdom! Put on the new self, maximize your marriage and enjoy the journey.
Next Friday, we will examine these important life changing words of Jesus, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and look back is fit for the Kingdom” (Luke 9:62). Really???
