“Now learn the parable of the Fig Tree”
In order to shorten this teaching series and not compromise its integrity, let me simply say that the fig tree is a symbol of the nation of Israel. (Study Ps. 80-8-9/Hosea 14:5-6/Hab.3:17-18/Is. 17:4-6) Jesus is continuing to answer the disciples question concerning the destruction of the Temple, His return to earth and the end of the age. He has bridged a two thousand year gap (previous studies) between their present moment in time and the future. He warned them that the 70th week of Daniel would come to pass, and when they (Israel) see the abomination of desolation sitting in the Temple, to run for their lives. He affirms that the carnage and death caused by the antichrist will be unlike anything ever seen on earth, but He also reassures them, “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will morn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky in all of His power and great glory” (Matt. 24:30). Jesus has revealed what must take place before He returns, and now He reveals when He will return. He does so with a parable of the Fig Tree.
Jesus makes it clear! “When the Fig Tree puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near, right at the door. “Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place” (Matt. 24:32-34). He also makes it clear that no one but His Father knows the exact day and hour of His return, but we can know the season. The disciples saw Jesus curse a fig tree outside the walls of Jerusalem, and they also saw it whither from its roots up. They understood that it was a symbol of Israel, and they also understood His parable. The disciples would not live to see Israel rebirthed as a nation, but we have.
Following the destruction of Israel by Titus in 70 AD, the surviving Jews were scattered throughout the four corners of the earth. It is more than amazingly that God’s sovereign hand kept them from being totally assimilated into other races, but He did. For more than two thousand years the Jews were wanderers in strange lands, but in May 14, 1948 a major miracle took place, in one day a new nation was birthed, the nation of Israel. No other nation in recorded history has ever been destroyed and rebirthed as a nation, but Israel has. Do you need a miracle or a move of God in your life? God is willing, and here is how to receive it – – – –
God asked Ezekiel, “Can these dry bones live?” Too which he replied, “O Lord God, You know!” And He said to me, “Prophesy (speak) over these bones.” Ezekiel did as God said, and the bible records that the bones came to life and became an exceedingly great army. Dear reader, it may be that you have some dry bones in your life. Perhaps its your marriage, your finances, or your health. It doesn’t matter how dry or hopeless things appear, God is saying, “Speak to them!” Stop agreeing with your problems and begin speaking God’s word of affirmation. Your job is to speak God’s promises and then stand in faith. It is God’s job is to bring it to pass. Short on faith? It may be that there are dry bones between you and God. If so, God is not the One who put them there. He is never hard to find, in fact, He is as near as your cry for help. If God can restore a nation, and He did, He can certainly bring restoration to the dry bones in your life.
Until next Friday when we see the Return of the Lord, keep the faith, speak the Word, and live triumphantly! In Christ Jesus, Don & Penny Penny51648@yahoo.com
