Think on “The Good News”

By December 4, 2015Uncategorized

All around us there is bad news.  Terrible and awful events are taking place all around the world, and the atrocities  of war, beheadings, and outright slaughter of innocent men, women, and children  are no longer taking place in foreign lands alone, they are now happening in America.  Jesus gave us a picture of events that would happen shortly before His second coming, and many of those prophecies are now taking place.  He said that wars would increase, nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom, (civil war, anarchy} and once again, His Word and promises are proving to be correct.  So what is the Church (born again believers) going to do?  We can shrink back and let chaos overtake us, or we can stand up, speak the gospel truth, and stand on the more than 2000 good promises that God has given to us.  We are most assuredly in the world, but by choice we do not have to be of the world.  The world didn’t get in the mess it is in overnight.  It has been in a mess since the day that Adam and Eve made a choice to disobey God’s commandment to not eat of the tree of good and evil.  Their disobedience not only brought forth a curse on the entire earth but on all living things as well .  Have you ever wondered why there are earthquakes and famines, hurricanes and storms?  It is because the earth is under a curse, and it will continue to dis-behave until the Lord returns.  Yet the curse did not effect the earth alone, it also corrupted and diseased all of mankind as well, but God, being rich in mercy sent His Son Jesus to free us from the curse.  Jesus didn’t strip Satan of the keys of death, hell, and the grave to keep us locked up; He took ownership of the keys of death so that He could let us out.

Let’s focus now on the answer, the Good News, the truth that the enemy does not want you to gain knowledge of.   God sent His  angel Gabriel to a young Jewish virgin girl named Mary and said, “You have found favor with God,  and behold, you shall conceive in your womb (by the Holy Spirit) and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.  He will be great and He will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob (Israel) forever, and His Kingdom will have no end” (Luke 1:30-33).  That dear reader is “Good News!”  It may seem that the enemy is winning, but the Lord has promised that His Son Jesus will rule over the earth and all of its people.  When He returns the earth will cease to belch, children can play with the asp and not be bitten, and the lion will lay down by the lamb.  Indeed, we who are the Church, will soon be called out of this earth and in a twinkling of an eye, exchange our mortal bodies for immortal bodies, and come back to earth to rule and reign with Him.

But what about now?  What is the Church to do until all of these things take place?  Let God’s Word assure you that there is no mystery as to what we are to do, it has all been written out in a love letter that is addressed to every born again believer.  Jesus destroyed the curse (all) on the Cross of Calvary so that we who have received Him as Savior and Lord can rule and reign over evil until that appointed time (Romans 5:17).  God does not want us wringing our hands and living in fear, He came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly (John 10:10).  The Prince of Peace came the first time to bring peace between those who receive His Son as Savior and Himself, and  He is soon coming again to set up His Kingdom here on earth.  For now, we can take consolation in His promise that He has overcome the world and that He will never leave or forsake us.  Never forget that Christ Jesus returned all authority to His church (the saved) when he triumphed over evil.  We are now children of God, joint heirs with Christ Jesus.  Therefore, He now calls us new creations, ambassadors, righteous, saints of the most high who have been born of the incorruptible seed of God.

Until next week, be of good cheer and make a daily choice to keep Christ in Christmas and His peace in your heart!
