“As a man thinks, so is he” (Prov. 23:7).
Over the years, I have observed that most men and women are where they are in life because of the way they think and the words they speak. For certain, everyone does not begin life’s journey on equal footing. Some are born into homes of wealth; others are born into middle income homes; many are born into homes of poverty. The major difference of the success or failure of those born into homes of different equality and circumstances is the way they are taught to think. Some would say, “I can’t help the way I think,” but nothing could be further from the truth. God is not a sponsor of failure and never will be. He has placed inside every human being a measure of greatness, of unlimited potential that must be tapped at its core and drawn out by the power of the mind. Think you can, think you can’t, both thoughts become the truth. Norman Vincent Peale once said, “Enthusiasm is the measuring stick between mediocrity and success; change your thoughts and you change your world.” And so the question must be asked, “Are you limping through the race of life, or can you truthfully say that you are running the race of life with enthusiasm?”
This is not about positive thinking, although positive thinking is important, it is about learning to think with the mind of Christ. Don’t be startled, but the bible says that every born again believer has the mind of Christ ( 1 Cor. 3:16). When you were saved by the blood of Christ your were instantly transformed (spiritually) into a new creation (11 Cor. 5:17). That is why the bible calls you the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor.3:16). The same power that raised Christ from the dead now lives and resides in you and is very desirous of taking control of your life, but He cannot do that until you give Him control of your mind. As you determine to make this choice, realize that your flesh has every intention of keeping your mind captive to the world’s system. The battle of the mind is a daily battle. That is why the Apostle Paul said, “I buffet my body (mind) daily,” and so must every born again Christian. Romans 12:2 gives this sage advise, “Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of the mind.” “Right thinking leads to right living.” Right living leads to joy, peace, and abundant Grace.
